Agroenergy – Support for Agriculture in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
The Agroenergy Program is an initiative of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) and the Provincial Funds for Environmental Protection and Water Management (WFOŚiGW) to support farmers in investments related to renewable energy sources. The program is aimed at owners and tenants of farms, who can obtain grants and loans to improve the energy efficiency of their farms.
Who is the Agroenergy program for?
The Agroenergy program is an initiative implemented by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) and the Provincial Funds for Environmental Protection and Water Management (WFOŚiGW). Its purpose is to support farmers in carrying out investments related to renewable energy sources (RES) and improving the energy efficiency of farms. The program aims to reduce the consumption of fossil fuel energy, as well as reduce emissions of harmful gases into the atmosphere. Agroenergy includes two main areas of support:
- Part 1: Investments in RES micro-installations (photovoltaics, heat pumps, wind turbines) up to 50 kW and energy storage.
- Part 2: Investments in agricultural biogas plants and small hydropower plants with a capacity of up to 500 kW.
The program supports farms that want to become more energy independent, reduce their operating costs and contribute to environmental protection. Farmers can obtain grants and preferential loans for investment in modern energy technologies. The Agroenergy Program is aimed at:
- Individual farmers who own farms from 1 hectare to 300 hectares. To take advantage of the program, a farmer must have operated his or her farm for at least one year before applying.
- Legal entities engaged in agricultural activities or providing agricultural services, such as tenants of agricultural properties and those operating under certain PKD codes (including 01.61.Z – Service activities supporting crop production, 01.63.Z – Service activities supporting agriculture and preparing crops for sale).
Scope of support
The program is divided into two parts:
- Part 1 – PV micro-installations, heat pumps and energy storage:
- The subsidy covers photovoltaic installations from 10 kW to 50 kW, wind installations of the same capacity, and heat pumps.
- Subsidies can be obtained for hybrid installations, that is, combining photovoltaics or wind energy with a heat pump.
- In addition, support can be obtained for the purchase and installation of energy storage, which increases the efficiency of RES installations.
- Part 2 – Agricultural biogas plants and small hydropower plants:
- Support for the installation of agricultural biogas plants and small hydropower plants with a capacity not exceeding 500 kW.
- The possibility of subsidies for energy storage accompanying these installations.
Funding amount
- The Agroenergy program offers various forms of subsidies, depending on the type of investment:
- PV micro-installations, heat pumps and wind installations:
- Subsidies of up to 20% of eligible costs for energy generation installations.
- Maximum grant amounts:
- Installations of 10 < kW ≤ 30: up to PLN 15,000.
- Installations of 30 < kW ≤ 50: up to PLN 25,000.
- Energy storage facilities:
- Subsidies of up to 20% of eligible costs, provided that the cost of energy storage does not exceed 50% of the value of the energy-generating installation.
- The installation of energy storage must be implemented in parallel with the RES project.
- Hybrid installations (e.g., photovoltaics + heat pump):
- Possibility to get an additional bonus of PLN 10,000 for hybrid installation.
- Agricultural biogas plants and small hydropower plants:
- Subsidies of up to 50% of eligible costs for installations up to 500 kW:
- Installations up to 150 kW: up to PLN 1,800,000.
- Installations of 150-300 kW: up to PLN 2,200,000.
- Installations of 300-500 kW: up to PLN 2,500,000.
- Subsidies of up to 50% of eligible costs for installations up to 500 kW:
- PV micro-installations, heat pumps and wind installations:
How to get a grant?
To take advantage of the Agroenergy program, you must:
- Apply – Applications can be downloaded and submitted on the WFOŚiGW Beneficiary Portal.
- Prepare documentation – Necessary attachments include energy invoices, farm records, and a simplified energy audit (for heat pumps).
- Obtain connection approval – Upon completion of the installation, obtain an acceptance protocol and connection to the power grid.
